StepChange Debt Charity: It’s a family affair

Brothers at CCCS charity

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother!

Today is #debtday  and the whole of the charity are making contributions to our Twitter account under the #debtday hashtag.

It’s been a great privilege to be part of the social media team and get the opportunity to walk around the charity collecting tweets and photographs of various staff members in many of our departments involved in debt management.

The atmosphere at StepChange Debt Charity is buzzing, even on a Monday!

This is brought about by the overall nature of the charity’s ethos and its attitude towards not just client wellbeing but staff wellbeing too.

This can often be demonstrated by the amount of people who work here, with not just friends, but relations also.

I started work here 4 years ago, my brother Adam started working here 6 years ago and my brother Richard has worked here a fair stretch longer (and now manages the Training department).

I’m not alone; also in the Social Media team my good friend Pav has worked here over six years and her lovely mum works here too as an Advisor (she’s worked here almost since we started). We’re also aware of a number of other staff members who work alongside relatives. It might be father and son, mother and daughter or husband and wife.

We’re advertising a number of job roles at the moment to join our ever-growing team, and you don’t need a better recommendation about what it’s like to work here than the way people recommend the charity as an employer to their relatives.

It’s good to work in a caring environment, but it’s nice to be cared for too. StepChange Debt Charity isn’t just like a family. In some cases it IS your family who work here too.

Matthew worked as an IVA drafter prior to working in social media. In a former life he wrote scripts for Eastenders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. He has 3 chickens, 2 dogs and a rabbit.

Another family connection here too – I’ve worked in our Leeds offices for over 8 years and my mum joined the DRO team in our Birmingham office almost 4 years ago now! I love working for our charity, never a dull moment and a lovely fuzzy glow at the end of each day knowing you’ve helped to give people back control over their lives and hope for a better future :^)

    • Hiya Claire.

Excellent, it’s nice to hear from another happy member of the team. We didn’t know your mum worked here.
